Abstract: Taking the Xichang area of China as an example, this study investigated factors affecting the geochemical characteristics of Se element by analyzing and comparing the environmental geochemical characteristics and temporal and spatial changes of Se in different rock formations, soil types, parent material layers, and soil layers. Analytical and statistical tests revealed that the content of Se in the soil of the study area ranged from 0.01 to 0.57 mg·kg-1, with an average value of 0.12 mg·kg-1, corresponding to a relatively low content. The orders of Se content in different materials are as follows: soil layer 〉 soil parent material layer 〉 rock layer in terms of the profile; Triassic continental clastic 〉 Neogene-Quaternary continental clastic 〉 Mesozoic intermediate-acid 〉 Proterozoic intermediate-acid 〉 Jurassic-Cretaceous continental clastic 〉 Permian basic-ultrabasic = Sinian marine carbonate = Proterozoic volcanic clastic in terms of rock formations (parent rocks); and brown soil 〉 yellow brown soil 〉 dark brown soil 〉 black felt soil 〉 red soil 〉 purple soil. The spatial distribution of Se exhibits distinct zoning and a good spatial coupling relationship with geological formations, rivers, topography, and geomorphology. The selenium content is mainly controlled by geological factors such as parent rock and parent material under different geological tectonic units, followed by clay minerals, organic matter such as Corg, S, N and element adsorption and fixation.

Abstract: A landslide occurred in the cut slope located in Chongqing west railway station, this slope belongs to a under-dip shale slope, which means that its bedding dip angle is larger than slope angle and it is comprised of soft rock. Some on-site investigations have been made to explore the deformation characteristics of this slope, the outcome suggested that sliding, buckling and toppling deformation existed at its different parts. To elucidate the complex failure mechanism exhibited by the under-dip slope under the long-term influence of gravity and material deterioration, the discrete element method has been employed in simulations. The simulated failure patterns have proven to be in strong agreement with the actual slope failure. This study suggests that sliding, buckling and toppling occur at different parts of the studied slope in sequence.

Abstract: 〈 p 〉 The late Permian thermal events related to Emeishan Basalt has made a great impact on the underlying carbonate rock properties in the western margin of the Yangtze Platform. In this paper, we investigate the carbon and oxygen isotopic composition of the Qixia Formation carbonates from two sections: the Qiaoting Section in the northeastern part of the Sichuan Basin and the Changjianggou Section at the northwestern edge of the Basin. The data reveal that: (i) Samples from Qiaoting section show a relatively narrow range of δ 〈 sup 〉 13 〈 /sup 〉 C and δ 〈 sup 〉 18 〈 /sup 〉 O, varying from 2.7‰ to 5.2‰ with an average of 4.2‰, and -3.8‰ to -7.8‰ with an average of -5.4‰, respectively. In contrast, Samples from Changjianggou section exhibit larger magnitude of variation in δ 〈 sup 〉 13 〈 /sup 〉 C and δ 〈 sup 〉 18 〈 /sup 〉 O, ranging from -1‰ to 3.8‰ with an average of 1.5‰, and -2.1 to -9.2‰, with an average of -6.0‰ respectively; (ii) δ 〈 sup 〉 13 〈 /sup 〉 C and δ 〈 sup 〉 18 〈 /sup 〉 O records in carbonates from Qiaoting section are similar to those of Middle Permian seawater whereas carbonates from the Changjianggou section are depleted in 〈 sup 〉 13 〈 /sup 〉 C and 〈 sup 〉 18 〈 /sup 〉 O compared to contemporary seawater; (iii) On the basis of combined petrographic and paleo-heat flow evidence, the lower carbon and oxygen isotopic composition of the carbonates from the Changjianggou section are interpreted to be the results of thermal effects of Emeishan Basalt because of its proximity to the eruption center of the basalt. The high temperature reduced the δ 〈 sup 〉 18 〈 /sup 〉 O values of the carbonates and forced the organic matter to mature at an early stage, thus producing 〈 sup 〉 13 〈 /sup 〉 C-enriched carbon dioxide to participate in the formation of carbonates. 〈 /p 〉

Abstract: The reservoir structural fractures have excellent fractal characteristics, as well as self-similarities. Based on the fractal theory, the surface fractal characteristics of faults and the fractal characteristic of fractures in the core of the Xujiahe Formation in the Fault-Fold Belt of the central Yuanba area were studied, and a quantitative relationship was set up between them. Based on the fractal characteristics of faults, predictions were made of the favorable fracture zone, which provides a new idea for the research of fracture, as well as offers theoretical references for exploring the fracture development zone during oil-gas exploration. The results show the following: the seismic value of reflection fault fractal dimension of the Xujiahe Formation is 1.5284; the correlation coefficient R2 is bigger than 0.9901; the capacity dimension linear regression correlation coefficient of the fracture in core of the Xujiahe Formation is bigger than 0.98; the fractal dimension D can well reflect the fault and fracture development degree, as well as the complexity of the fracture system; it can quantitatively calculate the density of the fracture of the reservoir in the area; the areas of capacity dimension bigger than 1.45 are the fracture development zones in the Fault-Fold Belt of the central Yuanba area; the oil and gas enrichment degree is high; the areas with the fractal dimension value between 0.95 and 1.45 are the fracture relatively-developed zones; the fractal dimension with values smaller than 0.95 are the lack of fracture areas.
