Abstract: A growth trial was conducted to estimate the optimum levels of dietary phosphorus (P) for juvenile hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus) fed fishmeal-free practical diets. Hybrid tilapia (1.68 ± 0.08 g) were fed diets containing various levels (0.0%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% and 1.0%) of additional inorganic phosphorus for 10 weeks using two different sources of phosphorus:calcium dihydrogen phosphate (MCP), and sodium dihydrogen phosphate (MSP). Hybrid tilapia fed the P-supplemented diets showed significantly higher weight gain (WG) and mineral deposition than those fed the unsupplemented diet. Based on weight gain and vertebral phosphorus content, the available phosphorus requirements of hybrid tilapia were estimated as 1% and 1.31% (0.6% and 0.9% based on additional phosphorus content) respectively, when MSP was used as a phosphorus source. When MCP was the phosphorus source, the requirement estimated for weight gain was 0.95% (0.61% based on additional phosphorus content). In addition, MCP contributed to increased growth and a higher mineral deposition rate than did MSP, in freshwater-reared hybrid tilapia.

Abstract: Regeneration is a process in which organisms regrow new tissues or organs at the injury site, which has attracted the attention of many scientists and nonscientists. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of regeneration after autotomy are largely unknown. In this study, we conducted RNA-seq sequencing on regenerated limb bud tissues of Litopenaeus vannamei at 0 hours post autotomy (0 hpa), 12 hours post autotomy (12 hpa), and 24 hours post autotomy (24 hpa). A total of 2,192 differentially expressed genes related to energy metabolism, transcription and translation, and epidermis development were identified between 0 hpa and 12 hpa, such as triosephosphate isomerase A, triosephosphate isomerase B, and zinc finger protein 367 that is upregulated in 12 hpa. Between 12 hpa and 24 hpa, 1,447 differentially expressed genes were identified that were related to cuticle development and energy metabolism, such as cuticle protein 6, which is upregulated in 24 hpa, and triosephosphate isomerase is downregulated in 24 hpa. The results indicated that energy metabolism, transcription and translation, epidermal formation, and chitin metabolism processes are involved during the early stage of limb regeneration. This study provides basic knowledge for investigating the molecular mechanisms associated with limb regeneration in crustaceans at the early regeneration stage.

Abstract: Shandong and Fujian are two important provinces regarding the development of the seaweed industry, which shared three-fourths of the national seaweed yield in the year 2020. The present study has analyzed the overall situation of the seaweed industry in Shandong and Fujian provinces by comparing annual output, farming area, and species structure. The current status of Laminaria japonica cultivation in two provinces is also compared to the production process, industrial organization, progress, and innovation. On this foundation, the following development strategies are proposed for the seaweed industry in Shandong Province: (1) change the mindset based on the present industrial basis, (2) retain and transform innovative achievements, (3) enhance the services of associations and organizations and (4) construct brands based on current market share.
