    Abstract: The present experiment evaluated the effects of dietary copper (Cu) on growth, antioxidant activities, and susceptibility to Aeromonas hydrophila infection of juvenile Oriental river prawn Macrobrachium nipponense, as well as determining the optimal dietary copper requirement. Semi-purified diets containing seven graded levels of copper (2.8, 12.2, 20.9, 29.8, 43.1, 78.9 and 157.1 mg/kg diet) from CuSO4⋅5H2O were fed to juvenile prawn (initial weight 0.101±0.002 g). The weight gain of prawns fed with 2.8-78.9 mg/kg Cu was higher and they had lower feed conversion ratios than the group fed 157.1 mg/kg Cu. Cu concentrations in the hepatopancreas, muscle, and whole body in prawns tended to increase with increased dietary Cu concentration. Hepatopancreas Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase (Cu-Zn SOD) activity, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and total antioxidant competence (T-AOC) were highest (P 〈 0.05) in the 43.1 mg/kg Cu group. The hepatopancreas malondialdehyde (MDA) content was lower (P 〈 0.05) in the prawns fed 29.8 mg/kg Cu than that in prawns fed 2.8, 12.2, 78.9 and 157.1 mg/kg Cu. After the feeding experiment, prawns were injected with A. hydrophila, and the cumulative mortality rate of the prawns fed with 20.9-43.1 mg/kg Cu was lower than the prawns fed with 2.8 and 157.1 mg/kg Cu. The optimum requirement of dietary Cu in juvenile prawns was estimated at 26.9-27.8 mg/kg diet based on cumulative mortality rate and whole-body Cu retention.

    Abstract: To study the molecular biology characteristics, phylogenetic relationship, and status quo of grass carp reovirus (GCRV) prevalent isolates, we conducted an epidemiological survey in South China from 2012 to 2016. We sampled 126 fish collected from five provinces. Eight strains of GCRV were isolated and examined in order to understand their genetic characteristics and evolution regularity. The results showed three genotypes of GCRV, of which. Genotype Ⅱ was found to be the prevalent strain in South China. SDS-PAGE electrophoresis further suggested that all viruses possess 11 segments of dsRNA, which have typical characteristics of GCRV. Based on amino acid sequence phylogenetic tree of VP6 gene, all eight isolates belonged to genotype Ⅱ and had significant variations compared to genotype Ⅰ. Analysis of amino acid sequence showed that these two genotypes of GCRV had no immunological cross-reactions. These results indicated that genotype Ⅱ GCRV is an extensive pandemic, and revealed new genetic diversity in China.

    Abstract: We investigated the effects of ammonia and nitrite stress on genes involved in metabolism and disease resistance in Japanese sea bass ( Lateolabrax japonicus ). Fish were exposed to pure seawater (control), 65.4 mg/L NH4+ -N, or 60.9 mg/L NO2–N for 7 days. Muscle, head-kidney, gill, spleen, and liver tissues were sampled regularly and the expression of immune and metabolism-related genes was monitored. The results indicated that the expression of immune-related genes such as heat shock proteins 70 and 90 were upregulated in the head-kidney, spleen, gill, liver, and muscle tissues under ammonia and nitrite stress. Glutamine synthetase (GS) expression increased to different degrees under ammonia and nitrite stress, while glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) in the stress group upregulated in the gills. The expression of carbonic anhydrase (CA) was upregulated in the spleen and gill tissue under ammonia or nitrite stress. Expression of leptin (LEP) was upregulated in the muscle, gills and liver under nitrite stress; under ammonia stress, LEP expression did not fluctuate significantly in the spleen or gill. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) was downregulated in the spleen, while did not fluctuate obviously in the muscle and head-kidney under ammonia stress. These results indicate that ammonia and nitrite stress led to an upregulated immune related indexes response and increased metabolic activities in L. japonicus , and provides reference suggestions for response status of these health markers answering the outside environment intimidation.

    Abstract: A growth trial was conducted to estimate the optimum levels of dietary phosphorus (P) for juvenile hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus) fed fishmeal-free practical diets. Hybrid tilapia (1.68 ± 0.08 g) were fed diets containing various levels (0.0%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% and 1.0%) of additional inorganic phosphorus for 10 weeks using two different sources of phosphorus:calcium dihydrogen phosphate (MCP), and sodium dihydrogen phosphate (MSP). Hybrid tilapia fed the P-supplemented diets showed significantly higher weight gain (WG) and mineral deposition than those fed the unsupplemented diet. Based on weight gain and vertebral phosphorus content, the available phosphorus requirements of hybrid tilapia were estimated as 1% and 1.31% (0.6% and 0.9% based on additional phosphorus content) respectively, when MSP was used as a phosphorus source. When MCP was the phosphorus source, the requirement estimated for weight gain was 0.95% (0.61% based on additional phosphorus content). In addition, MCP contributed to increased growth and a higher mineral deposition rate than did MSP, in freshwater-reared hybrid tilapia.

    Abstract: New heteroleptic cyclometalated iridium(III) 2‐phenylpyridine‐type complexes with trifluoromethyl substituents and various main‐group moieties were synthesized and their photophysical, electrochemical, and electroluminescent (EL) properties studied. The emission color can be tuned by a facile derivatization of the phenyl moiety of 2‐phenylpyridine with various main‐group moieties, and we have prepared new yellowishgreen to orange triplet emitters with enhanced charge injection/charge transporting features, which can furnish attractive EL performance in phosphorescent organic light‐emitting devices (OLEDs). Attempts were also made to fabricate two‐color white‐light OLEDs based on a combination of fluorescent blue and phosphorescent orange emitters.

    Abstract: In this study, we isolated thirty-eight microsatellite loci from the draft genome of large yellow croaker, Pseudosciaena crocea. These loci were tested on 34 individuals from Zhangzhou prefecture city in Fujian. Most loci were highly polymorphic. A total of 214 alleles were detected with an average of 5.63 alleles per locus. The observed and expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.454 to 0.909 and from 0.503 to 0.918, with an average of 0.635 and 0.744, respectively. The PIC values of these loci ranged from 0.372 to 0.878, with an average of 0.712. Eight loci significantly deviated from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE). Significant linkage disequilibrium (LD) was not found in these 38 loci. The newly identified polymorphic markers will contribute to the study of genetic diversity, population structure, and conservation of P. crocea.

    Abstract: In order to explore the effects of acute low salinity stress on the liver structure, physiology and biochemistry of the larvae of Lateolabrax maculatus , the experiment was carried out to transfer the juveniles direct from salinity 30‰ (control group) to salinity 20‰, 10‰, and 0‰, respectively. Changes in liver microstructure and related physiological and biochemical indexes at different time points were observed. The results showed that no fish died during the whole experiment and all of them returned to normal behavior within 15 minutes. The liver cells of juvenile Chinese sea bass showed pathological changes such as swelling, vacuolation and nuclear pyknosis after low salinity stress, and the lower the salinity, the earlier the abnormal phenomenon appeared. The total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) of liver showed a rapid increase and then decrease; The level of malondialdehyde (MDA) returned to normal after high fluctuations. The activity of lysozyme (LZM) in experimental groups were higher than that in control group between 12h and 48h, while there was not significantly different before 6h in each group (P 〉 0.05), all of them returned to normal in 96 h. The activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and acid phosphatase (ACP) increased firstly and then decreased during the time of stress, and there was no significant difference between each group at the same time point (P 〉 0.05). The comprehensive analysis showed that the juvenile Chinese sea bass had strong osmotic pressure regulation ability, and the acute low salinity stress had little effect on the liver structure and physiological and biochemical indexes.

    Abstract: Photoconductivity has been measured on films of pure poly(Nvinylcarbazole) (PVK) and PVK doped with the metallofullerene Dy@C 82 and the fullerenes C 84 and C 60 . The photo‐induced discharge rate of the PVK film increased dramatically when doped with the metallofullerene or the fullerenes. Comparatively, the film doped with Dy@C 82 displayed better photoconductivity than that doped with C 84 , which is attributed to the Dy@C 82 being a better electron acceptor than C 84 . However, the film doped with C 60 showed the best photoconductivity. This is attributed to the better electron accepting ability of excited C 60 * or the better miscibility of the hollow fullerenes with the PVK polymer and organic solvents.
