    Abstract: Aeromonas infections are the most common bacterial disease in cultured fish. In April 2013, an epizootic ulcerative syndrome occurred on a goldfish farm in Xuzhou, central China. A gram-negative bacterium was isolated from the ulcerative lesions and internal organs of infected dragon-eye goldfish (Carassius auratus), tentatively named strain CAV-134. The results showed that the isolate was identified as Aeromonas veronii by physiological and biochemical characteristics, furthermore it was confirmed by 16S rRNA, gyrB, mu, asl and aha1 genes sequencing analysis. The pathogenicity of the isolate was confirmed in crucian carp and produced an LD50 of 1.99×106 CFU/ml. Antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of strain CAV-134 showed it was susceptible to most antimicrobial agents tested but resistant to ampicillin, amoxicillin, carbenicillin, vancomycin, teicoplanin, lincomycin and clindamycin. This is the report on the pathogenic A. veronii isolated from the skin ulcerative syndrome of dragon-eye goldfish.

    Abstract: Acinetobacter lwoffii infections are largely concentrated in mammals; very few reports are available for such infections in fish. In this study, a Gram-negative rod bacillus was isolated from the intestine of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), and designed as strain CY1. The isolated strain was then identified as A. lwoffii according to morphological, physiological, and biochemical properties, and 16S rDNA sequencing. The phylogenetic tree constructed on the basis of 16S rDNA sequences indicated that strain CY1 is most closely related to A. lwoffii, and has 98.08% similarity with type strain ATCC17925. Experimental infection assays were conducted, and a cumulative mortality rate of 75% was observed in grass carp. Antimicrobial susceptibility test showed that the isolated strain CY1 was highly susceptible to most antimicrobial agents tested, including aminoglycosides, β-lactams, and quinolones. To our knowledge, this is the first report on pathogenic A. lwoffii in grass carp.

    Abstract: Shewanella infection of fish has become a significant problem in aquaculture. In September 2014, a disease was seen in cultured loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) in Xuzhou, central China. A gram-negative bacillus was isolated from the diseased loaches and was tentatively named strain MS1, which was then identified as Shewanella sp. by physiological and biochemical characteristics analysis. The strain MS1 showed highest 16S rRNA sequence identities (98.93%, 98.87%) with the latest two species listed (Shewanella sp. MR7, Shewanella sp. MR4). The phylogenetic tree constructed on the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequences strongly indicated that the strain MS1 is most closely related to the new Shewanella strains MR7 and MR4. The isolate MS1 was confirmed as the pathogen of the infected loaches by experimental reinoculation. The strain was susceptible to most antimicrobial agents tested, but resistant to glycopeptides (vancomycin, teicoplanin) and lincosamide (lincomycin, clindamycin). This is the second report on Shewanella sp. isolated from the diseased loach.
