Abstract:
Although chloroplasts are encircled by the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), they move rapidly within a cell in response to light to ensure efficient photosynthesis, but the regulatory mechanism of the ER structure during chloroplast movement remains unknown. Here, we reveal that in Marchantia polymorpha , the blue light receptor phototropin, which mediates chloroplast movement, interacts with an ER membrane‐bending protein reticulon (MpRTN1), and that MpRTN1 restructures the ER network and facilitates phototropin‐mediated chloroplast movement.
