Abstract: A rod- or coccus-shaped, non-spore-forming actinobacterium, designated strain SC8A-24 T , was isolated from a soil sample collected from the rhizosphere of Alhagi sparsifolia on the southern edge of the Taklimakan desert, Xinjiang, China, and examined by a polyphasic approach to clarify its taxonomic position. This actinobacterium was Gram-staining-positive and aerobic. Substrate and aerial mycelia were not observed, and no diffusible pigments were observed on the media tested. Strain SC8A-24 T grew optimally without NaCl at 28–30 °C and pH 7.0–8.0. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strain SC8A-24 T belonged to the genus Nocardioides and shared the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with Nocardioides salarius CL-Z59 T (96.51 %), N. pyridinolyticus OS4 T (96.43 %) and N. ginsengagri BX5-10 T (96.37 %). The DNA G+C content of strain SC8A-24 T was 71 mol%. The cell-wall peptidoglycan contained ll -2,6-diaminopimelic acid, and MK-8(H 4 ) was the predominant menaquinone. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified glycolipid and an unidentified phospholipid. The major fatty acids were C 17 : 1 ω8 c , 10-methyl C 17 : 0 and C 18 : 1 ω9 c . On the basis of phylogenetic analysis and phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, strain SC8A-24 T represents a novel species of the genus Nocardioides , for which the name Nocardioides deserti sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SC8A-24 T ( = DSM 26045 T  = CGMCC 4.7183 T ).

Abstract: Sixty-two new Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) isolates were obtained from mosquitoes, biting midges, human cerebrospinal fluid and human blood samples in China during 2002–2005. The E and prM genes were sequenced and phylogenetic analyses were performed with 38 JEV other isolates from China and 36 JEV strains from other countries. Phylogenetic trees based on the E and prM gene sequences were similar. The results indicate that: (i) recent JEV isolates from China are divided into two genotypes, genotype 1 and genotype 3; (ii) recent JEV isolates from China are grouped into the same clusters within genotypes 1 and 3; and (iii) genotype 1 JEV strains have been isolated in China since 1979, whilst genotype 3 JEV strains were isolated before the 1970s. The results suggest that genotype 1 JEV was introduced to China around 1979 and that JEV strains belonging to genotypes 1 and 3 circulate in China.

Abstract: A rose, Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium that was motile by gliding, and designated strain H359 T , was isolated from radiation-polluted soil (with high Cs 137 ) from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of PR China and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic analysis. The isolate grew optimally at 30 °C and pH 7.0. It grew with NaCl up to 4 % (w/v). 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain H359 T belonged to the genus Rufibacter , a member of the family Cytophagaceae , with Rufibacter tibetensis CCTCC AB 208084 T as its closest phylogenetic relative, having 96.1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to the type strain. Strain H359 T contained menaquinone-7 (MK-7) as the predominant menaquinone, and the major fatty acids were iso-C 15 : 0 , summed feature 4 (iso-C 17 : 1 I and/or anteiso-C 17 : 1 B), summed feature 3 (C 16 : 1 ω7 c and/or C 16 : 1 ω6 c ) and C 16 : 1 ω5 c . The polar lipid profile had phosphatidylethanolamine as the major component. The DNA G+C content was 43.9 mol%. Based on phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic evidence, strain H359 T represents a novel species of the genus Rufibacter , for which the name Rufibacter roseus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is H359 T ( = CPCC 100615 T  = KCTC 42217 T ).

Abstract: A Gram-positive, aerobic, non-motile actinobacterium, designated strain 6014 T , was isolated from a soil sample collected from Qinghai province, north-west China, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. The isolate formed elementary branching hyphae and abundant aerial mycelia with globose sporangia on ISP 4 and R2A media. Whole-cell hydrolysates of strain 6014 T contained arabinose, galactose and ribose as diagnostic sugars and meso -diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid. The polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylmethylethanolamine, phosphatidylethanolamine, hydroxy-phosphatidylethanolamine, N -acetylglucosamine-containing phospholipids, two unknown phospholipids and an unknown glycolipid. The menaquinone system contained MK-9(H 2 ) and MK-9(H 4 ). The major fatty acids were C 14 : 0 , i-C 15 : 0 , C 16 : 0 and 10-methyl-C 16 : 1 . The genomic DNA G+C content of the isolate was 69.4 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain 6014 T fell within the radius of the suborder Streptosporangineae , in which the strain formed a distinct lineage next to genera of the family Streptosporangiaceae. Based on data from this polyphasic study, strain 6014 T can be readily distinguished from previously described organisms and represents a member of a novel species within a new genus in the suborder Streptosporangineae . The name Sinosporangium album gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed with 6014 T (=DSM 45181 T =KCTC 19655 T ) as the type strain.

Abstract: China is a hotspot for hot springs and during microbial diversity analysis of Tengchong hot spring, Yunnan province, south-west PR China, two strains designated SYSU G01001 T and SY-13 were isolated. SYSU G01001 T and SY-13 were Gram-stain-positive, motile and spore-forming. Colonies were white, circular, raised and punctiform. SYSU G01001 T and SY-13 grew at pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum pH 8.0) and at 23–37 °C (optimum 28 °C). The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between SYSU G01001 T and SY-13 was 99.6 % but these strains shared low sequence similarity with Paenibacillus azotifigens (97.5 %) indicating that they represented a novel species. On the basis of the results, SYSU G01001 T was selected for further investigations and SY-13 was considered to represent a second strain of the species. The cell wall peptidoglycan of SYSU G01001 T was meso -2,6-diaminopimelic acid and MK-7 was the only respiratory quinone. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), two unidentified aminolipids (AL), two unidentified amino phospholipids (APL), an unidentified phospholipid (PL) and an unidentified polar lipid (L). The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 53.9 mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANIb and ANIm) values between SYSU G01001 T and Paenibacillus azotifigens LMG 29963 T were below the cut-off level (95–96 %) recommended as the average nucleotide identity (ANI) criterion for interspecies identity. On the basis of the above results strain SYSU G01001 T represents a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus , for which the name Paenibacillus tepidiphilus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SYSU G01001 T (=KCTC 33952 T =CGMCC 1.13870 T ).

Abstract: To determine if Ageratina adenophora can accumulate diverse pathogens from surrounding native plants, we intensively sampled fungal communities, including endophytes, leaf spot pathogens and canopy air fungi, associated with Ag. adenophora as well as native plants in its invasive range. In total, we collected 4542 foliar fungal strains from 10 geographic sites, including 1340 from healthy leaves of Ag. adenophora , 2051 from leaf spots of Ag. adenophora and 1151 from leaf spots of 56 species of native plants and crops. Taxonomically, the common fungal genera included Colletotrichum , Diaporthe , Alternaria , Nemania , Xylaria , Neofusicoccum , Nigrospora , Epicoccum , Gibberella , Pestalotiopsis , Irpex , Schizophyllum and Clonostachys . We also isolated the cultivable fungi from 12 air samples collected from six areas in Yunnan Province, PR China. Among the total of 1255 air fungal isolates, the most common genera were Cladosporium , Trichoderma and Epicoccum . Among them, two new Remotididymella species, Remotididymella ageratinae from leaf spot of Ag. adenophora and Remotididymella anemophila from canopy air of Ag. adenophora were found. The two species showed both asexual and sexual reproductive structures. The conidia of R. ageratinae and R. anemophila are larger than those of R. anthropophila and R. destructiva . The size of ascospores of R. ageratinae and R. anemophila also differ from R. bauhiniae . Phylogenetic analysis of the combined ITS, LSU rRNA, rpb2 and tub2 sequences showed that R. ageratinae and R. anemophila each formed a distinct clade, separated from all species previously described in Remotididymella and confirmed them as new species belonging to Remotididymella . Full descriptions of R. ageratinae and R. anemophila are provided in this study.
