Abstract: This article investigates bubbles in the Chinese film industry to reveal the industry’s boom and bust process that influences employment, citizen’s livelihoods, and even economic growth. We adopt the film stock index to reflect the industry’s trajectory and employ the generalized and backward sup augmented Dickey–Fuller tests to detect bubble periods. Empirical results indicate that there are three positive bubbles in 2007, 2013, and 2015, indicating that the film market continues to expand after temporary frustrations. Meanwhile, one negative bubble is found in 2019, which demonstrates that the bubble’s negative impacts persist and the film industry is still having problems such as declining industrial output. Economic growth, film quality, and industrial policies are common factors for all bubbles. The global financial crisis, capital in- and outflows, internet giants’ entry and sky-high remuneration are reasons for certain bubble behaviors. Hence, market practitioners should actively recognize bubbles and observe their evolution, which will favor industrial stabilization. A perfect legal system, moderate industrial policies, a competitive market environment, and other measures are needed to confront the opportunities and challenges.

Abstract: We aimed to develop an item bank of computerized adaptive testing for eating disorders (CAT-ED) in Chinese university students to increase measurement precision and improve test efficiency. A total of 1,025 Chinese undergraduate respondents answered a series of questions about eating disorders in a paper-pencil test. A total of 133 items from four well-validated Chinese-version scales of eating disorders were used to construct the item bank of CAT-ED with the following analysis. First, unidimensionality, model fit, local independence, item fit, discrimination and differential item functioning (DIF) were tested. Then, two simulation studies were applied to test the CAT-ED’s effectivity and rationality by calculating concurrent criterion-related validity, sensitivity and specificity. The final item bank comprised 77 items, which met the requirements of local independence, item fit, high discrimination and no differential item functioning in CAT. The mean number of administered items in CAT with the stopping rule fixed at SE ≤ 0.3 was 11 items. The obtained results showed that CAT-ED had acceptable reliability, validity, sensitivity and specificity.

Abstract: Based on cognitive dissonance theory, this study aims to test good soldier syndrome regarding the relationship among compulsory citizenship behavior, job engagement, emotion regulation, and job performance so as to promote sustainable Human Resource Management (HRM). The sample, which applied the purposive sampling method, comprised 89 supervisors and 304 subordinates who work from 4-star and 5-star hotels in Taiwan. The results showed that the relevantly negative effect of employees’ performance is caused by compulsory citizenship behavior, that job engagement mediates the relationship between compulsory citizenship behavior and job performance, and that the indirect effect between compulsory citizenship behavior and job performance via job engagement is moderated by emotion regulation. Based on the findings of this study, this paper provides managerial implications, limitations of the current study, and future research suggestions.

Abstract: Based on the technology acceptance model (TAM), this paper discusses how the functional attributes and design characteristics of sports wearable devices affect users’ attitude and behavior. In order to estimate the relationship between variables, structural equation model (SEM) was used to analyze the data from questionnaire. By analyzing the relationship among data analysis, real-time monitoring, appearance design, simple operation, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, use attitude, and use behavior, it is found that data analysis and real-time monitoring has a significant impact on the perceived usefulness of sports wearable devices. The simple operation and appearance design have a significant impact on the perceived ease of use of sports wearable devices. The perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of sports wearable devices further affect users’ attitude and behavior. The result means all study hypotheses were accepted. Therefore, providing perfect data analysis function, developing accurate real-time monitoring function, introducing friendly appearance design, and simplifying product operation mode can improve the use value and operation convenience of sports wearable devices and enhance the acceptance of users.

Abstract: The literature on corruption is extensive. However, specific effects of corruption on industrial structure upgrade have received little attention in the context of China. Therefore, following the concept of organizational performance and social capital theory, a number of panel models are developed to explore how different institution domains (i.e., government’s willingness to reform, business ownership structure, and government-business collusion) moderate the effect size of corruption on upgrading the industrial structure in China. The results are generally robust after endogeneity corrections, and suggest that the effect size of corruption on the industrial structure upgrade is evidently moderated by willingness to reform and ownership structure, but government-business collusion does not appear to have a similar effect. These findings explain the variation in the corruption-performance link, and provide a novel perspective for policy makers and regulators to understand the evolutionary path of corruption within the process of economic transition in China. A local government must thoroughly understand the dynamics of an industrial structure upgrade and acquire competencies and knowledge about when the effect of corruption reaches its inflection point and how its downside can be alleviated by placing specific formal and informal institutional reforms.
