Abstract: Assistive technology (AT) for students with visual impairments (VI) is an essential part of their educational program. AT allows students to develop skills, engage in the academic environment, and function independently. Despite the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandate for AT as part of a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), research has found that rural schools use fewer AT devices when compared with urban schools. The extent of AT use is significantly determined by the level of teachers’ training and their familiarity with AT. In this article, the authors present an AT resource they created to provide teachers and parents with current, helpful information on AT for students with VI. The resource details (a) application/devices about which teachers need to know more, (b) the type of VI with which an application/device is most helpful, (c) key features, (d) cost, (e) sources for additional information, (f) product guides and research evaluating the AT, and (g) organizations that provide additional information.

Abstract: Using qualitative case study as a method, the researchers collected data from four PhD returnees specializing in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and inquired about their experiences of teacher identity (re)construction after their return to Chinese universities. The collected data demonstrate that these participants have encountered various challenges in complying with Chinese higher education practices; their unique insider/outsider experience and the contribution that they can make to internationalization of the university culture and pedagogy are undervalued, while they often feel unsupported to develop their research profile. This paper contributes to the current research into EFL PhDs’ mobility and their teacher identity (re)construction in the context of the internationalization of Chinese universities. The challenges and issues raised here may have commonalities with those faced in other international tertiary education settings, where EFL PhD students gain their qualifications overseas and return to a career in EFL in their own country.

Abstract: Using school management settings, this manuscript developed important substantial leadership models such as “instructional,” “constructive,” and “distributed.” University leadership and especially in the private sector is an understudied topic. While private universities need to generate revenue for profits and survival, they should, at the same time, retain sound education philosophies, an extremely difficult task. Studies are yet to be conducted to understand how leaders of private universities handle this challenge, and this issue motivates the present research. Using Bangladesh as a case study, this qualitative study discovers that the “visionary” leadership approach is mainly used for business management models that govern private sector universities. This does not enable an established education leadership model to function well, if at all. This poses a serious challenge to educational philosophy. Innovation of a specialized private sector university leadership model is therefore required.

Abstract: This study seeks to investigate the effects of COVID-19 on middle-level administration in higher education (HE) and to propose solutions to existing problems. The interview included 12 leaders from HE institutions in Yunnan province. Thematic analysis revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic had the greatest impact on college leadership performance in five areas: teaching achievement, student management, the normal performance of personnel quality, organization operation, and school cost. Meanwhile, four countermeasures were recommended, including improving leaders’ forward-thinking ability; increasing their awareness of innovation; strengthening their work coordination; and enhancing their ability to handle internet public opinion.
