Abstract: This study aims to select the elite purple waxy corn hybrids by Vietnam by multivariable selection method by multi-trait genotype-ideotype distance index (MGIDI) based on growth, yield, and quality traits for purple waxy corn varieties commercialisation in the North of Vietnam. The field experiment was arranged in a randomised complete block design with 3 replications and evaluated 25 crosses with two check varieties in the Spring and Winter season of 2021 in Hanoi. The results of the selection of purple waxy corn hybrids by MGIDI in the Spring and Winter 2021 season identified the two most promising hybrid combination having the MGIDI index with a commercial potential as THL01 (D161 x FP1, named VNUA261, MGIDI=1.449 in the Spring season and 1.869 in Winter season), and THL02 (Q2151 x FP1, named VNUA191, MGIDI=1.218 in Spring season and 0.404 in Winter season). The fresh corn harvest time of VNUA261 and VNUA191 ranged from 70-75 days and 66-73 days, respectively. Fresh corn yield of VNUA261 and VNUA191 reached 12.51-13.85 tons/ha and 12.24-13.56 tons/ha, respectively. Corn has good eating quality, thin pericarp (≤60 μm), and high anthocyanin content, in which VNUA261 reached 112.93-124.07 mg/100 g dry seed, VNUA191 reached 100.33-119.57 mg/100 g dry seed.

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate agronomic traits and genetic diversity through correlation analysis, principal component analysis, and cluster analysis on 20 agronomic traits of 16 S4 tropical sweet corn lines (NG01-NGO16) and 4 S4 temperate lines (NGO17-NGO20) developed from varieties imported from Thailand, China, Japan, and the USA along with 3 inbred check lines viz., SW1 (sweet, yellow), D181 (sweet, white) and UV10 (sweet, purple). The field experiment was arranged in a randomised complete block design with 3 replicates in Hanoi, in the autumn-winter crop 2022 to evaluate twenty agronomic traits, divided into 4 groups viz., 5 growth traits, 7 morphological traits, 7 yield traits, and 1 quality trait. Correlation analysis showed that the single plant yield was positively correlated at p 〈 0.01 with the number of kernels per row 0.61, the number of kernel rows per ear 0.57, and positively correlated at p 〈 0.05 with ear diameter 0.47 and ear length 0.45. Twenty traits were dimensionally reduced to 3 main principal components contributing 66.8% of total phenotypic variation in which growth duration, plant height, ear height, leaf angle, number of kernels row per ear, number of kernels per row, 1000-grain weight, single plant yield and total soluble solids can be used to evaluate the differences of sweet corn lines. Cluster analysis based on principal components on 20 agronomic traits classified 20 sweetcorn lines into 3 main groups. This study provided useful information on phenotypic diversity and valuable sweetcorn genetic resources for breeding programs on speciality corn in Vietnam.

Abstract: This study evaluates the variation of water quality, microbiology, gill morphology and shrimp growth of the intensive white leg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) applying Nanobubble technology. The experiment consisted of 9 commercial concrete tanks with a volume of 25-35 m3divided into 3 treatments of oxygen Nanobubble (O2-NB), ozone Nanobubble (O3-NB), and control (CTRL), 3 tanks for each treatment. O2-NB and O3-NB were provided to the tanks for 1 hour/day during the culture period from stocking to harvest. Shrimps were stocked at a density of 300 shrimp/m3 and applied with the same care and environmental management protocol such as feeding, water change, aeration, siphon, and microbiological treatment. The results showed that the pH, DO, and ORP parameters are affected by the O2-NB and O3-NB treatments. The average concentration of total Vibrioin the water of the O2-NB group was 1.41 times higher than that of the control group, and 1.51 times higher than that of the O3-NB group. The gill tissue of the shrimp was affected and changed to different degrees but did not reduce the survival rate of the shrimp in the experimental treatments. The harvest weight of shrimp of the control, O2-NB, and O3-NB treatments were 11.50±2.29, 11.48±2.66, and 13.87±1.65 g/shrimp, respectively. Research results exhibited that O3-NB treatment increased DO, reduced total Vibrio in water and increased growth rate compare to the control and O2-NB treatments. Reducing Nanobubble generator running time should be considered to minimise the impact on shrimp gills.
