Summary
We report attempts to isolate and purify sialic acid-containing glycolipids (gangliosides) from etiolated hypocotyls of soybean (Glycine max) using methods developed for rat liver. The maximum amounts of ganglioside sialic acid present was found to be less than. 0.021 nmole/g fresh weight or less than 1:100,000 the amounts present in rat liver. We conclude that this tissue lacks gangliosides.
