Abstract
IN the North Indian Ocean current reversal with season greatly affects variability in current velocities, water transport and inter-current influence. This seasonal hydrological cycle also makes its influence felt in the South-west Indian Ocean1–4, and Barlow1 has shown that the cycles of surface current velocity in the South-west Indian Ocean bear a direct relationship to those of the North Indian Ocean.
