Beschreibung: Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, Cd and Pb concentrations were measured by atomicabsorption spectroscopy in Scatophagus argus collected during January throughDecember 2013. Muscle and liver tissues of the fish samples were analyzed to examinethe differences in concentration among the above metals in different seasons of the year.Significant differences were found between the tissues, with all metals being consistentlyhigher in liver than those in edible tissues. There appeared to be a general trend ofincreasing concentration in post-monsoon for Fe, Zn, Cu and Cd and in pre-monsoon forMn and Pb. However, statistically significant differences were not found betweenseasons. The results may be concluded that the heavy metal amounts in spotted scat of theKorangi fish harbor do not show any threat to people health.

Beschreibung: Seaweeds are highly productive resources in coastal ecosystems and sensitive to man-made forcing. This study deals with the use of heavy metal concentrations in seaweeds as bio-indicators for the metal pollution of coastal regions (Sunehri, Manora and Buleji) during Pre-monsoon (January to February) season in 2016. Concentrations recorded in Fe, Mn and Zn were much higher than, when compared with Cu, Ni, Cd, Pb and Cr values. The orders of metal concentrations in seaweeds were Fe 〉 Mn 〉 Zn 〉 Cu 〉 Ni 〉 Cr 〉 Pb 〉 Cd for Hypnea sp., Fe 〉 Mn 〉 Zn 〉 Cu 〉 Ni 〉 Pb 〉 Cd 〉 Cr for Padina tetrastromatica and Fe 〉 Mn 〉 Zn 〉 Cu 〉 Ni 〉 Pb 〉 Cd 〉 Cr for Caulerpa scalpelliformis. Furthermore, heavy metal concentrations were found in seaweeds as bio-indicator species for the first time from Sunehri coasts of Karachi, Pakistan. Thus, this study shows to validate the use of seaweeds as metal biomonitor of coastal waters of the Arabian Sea.

Beschreibung: A total of (n=114) H. dussumieri were collected during monsoon (August and September), post monsoon (October and November) seasons in 2011. Mean total length of females (t test: P = 2.5663E-12) and males (t test: P = 1.4766E-08) between two seasons were significantly different. Similarly, mean total length (t test: P = 9.8887E-20) and Size-frequency distribution (Kolmogorov-Smirnov two sample test: d = 0.82716, P = 3.41312E-15) were significantly different between monsoon and postmonsoon for combined sexes. The slope (b) of WLRs regression lines for monsoon except for male were significantly different from the isometric growth curve slope (b = 3). Therefore, the slope of WLRs regression lines for postmonsoon by combined sex and both female and male were significantly lower than the isometric growth curve slope (b = 3) suggesting negative allomnetric growth in post-monsoon season.

Beschreibung: The present study was conducted to determine the effect of seasonalvariation on condition factors (CFs) and weight - length relationships (WLRs) of TigerPerch, Terapon jarbua (Forsskål, 1775) collected from landing centre at Korangi fishharbour during January to December 2014. A total of 224 specimens were collectedduring different seasons such as pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. Theresults showed that T. jarbua has negative allometric growth characteristics in premonsoon, positive allometric growth in monsoon, and isometric growth character in postmonsoonseason (Pauly’ t test, P 〉 0.05). The values of r are different from zero (P 〈0.05), indicated that T. jarbua has higher correlation in WLRs equations. Moreover, tocompare the results calculated from the present study with previous studies, log a valueswere plotted against values of b, which proved to be consistent with previous studies datafor T. jarbua. CFs for T. jarbua was estimated to be the highest value in pre-monsoon(mean: 2.6994±0.0649), followed by post-monsoon (mean: 0.7875±0.0139) and monsoon(mean: 0.4903±0.0105) season. One way ANOVA test showed that seasonal significantdifferences were found in condition factor of T. jarbua at P 〈 0.05.

Beschreibung: The level of four heavy metals Mercury (Hg), Boron (B), Cobalt (Co),Aluminum(Al) in muscle and liver of Katsuwonus pelamis fish. Fish sample ofKatsuwonus pelamis were collected from fish harbour of Karachi during January 2007and December 2007 for metal analysis. Samples were analyzed by AAS-700. The highestlength (63cm) and weight (2700g) were recorded in this studied. The meanconcentrations of Hg, B, Co and Al in muscle were recorded as 0.041, 0.069, 0.041and0.030μg/g, respectively. However, the mean concentrations of Hg, B, Co and Al in livertissues were found as 0.673, 0.725, 0.725 and 0.498μg/g, respectively. The highestconcentration of B was found in both liver and muscle tissues in pre-monsoon andmonsoon, and the lowest concentration of Al was found in liver tissues at pre-monsoon,monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. The results of this study show that Hg, Co and Alaccumulations of K. pelamis caught from Karachi coast were generally below theinternational permissible levels. Therefore, metal accumulations in K. pelamis and allother fishes have to be monitored continuously in this region for human healthy. ANOVAanalysis clearly revealed that there was a significant p≤0.05 in organ of fishes.Statistically significant differences were observed in the mean metal values fromdifferent seasons and tissues (p〈0.05).
