Notes:
Summary Chromosome number and chromosome morphology of four ascites tumor strains of mice (Ehrlich-ascites-carcinoma, sarcoma 180, lymphosarcoma NK/Ly, and S2-sarcoma) were examined. In comparison with the normal karyotype of the mouse all tumors showed deviating chromosome numbers. The characteristic marker chromosomes A, B, D, and C were found in all tumors. The karyotypes of the tumors E-MAC, sarcoma 180, and NK/Ly were found to be rather similar, whereas the karyotype of the S2-sarcoma showed some differences in its chromosome structure and chromosome number. The selection of optimal karyotypes under constant and similar conditions of intraperitoneal grwoth is assumed to be responsible for the karyological similarity of the tumor strains.
