Description: The following authors were omitted from the original version of this Data Descriptor: Markus Reichstein and Nicolas Vuichard. Both contributed to the code development and N. Vuichard contributed to the processing of the ERA-Interim data downscaling. Furthermore, the contribution of the co-author Frank Tiedemann was re-evaluated relative to the colleague Corinna Rebmann, both working at the same sites, and based on this re-evaluation a substitution in the co-author list is implemented (with Rebmann replacing Tiedemann). Finally, two affiliations were listed incorrectly and are corrected here (entries 190 and 193). The author list and affiliations have been amended to address these omissions in both the HTML and PDF versions. © 2021, This is a U.S. government work and not under copyright protection in the U.S.; foreign copyright protection may apply.

Description: The FLUXNET2015 dataset provides ecosystem-scale data on CO2, water, and energy exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere, and other meteorological and biological measurements, from 212 sites around the globe (over 1500 site-years, up to and including year 2014). These sites, independently managed and operated, voluntarily contributed their data to create global datasets. Data were quality controlled and processed using uniform methods, to improve consistency and intercomparability across sites. The dataset is already being used in a number of applications, including ecophysiology studies, remote sensing studies, and development of ecosystem and Earth system models. FLUXNET2015 includes derived-data products, such as gap-filled time series, ecosystem respiration and photosynthetic uptake estimates, estimation of uncertainties, and metadata about the measurements, presented for the first time in this paper. In addition, 206 of these sites are for the first time distributed under a Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0) license. This paper details this enhanced dataset and the processing methods, now made available as open-source codes, making the dataset more accessible, transparent, and reproducible.

Notes: 1. Blood pressure, pulse rate, salivary flow and the degree of sedation were recorded at intervals following oral administration of single doses of guanfacine, a clonidine-like agent, to hypertensive patients.2. Between 2 and 10 h after administration of guanfacine (3 mg or S mg), there were dose-related decreases in lying and standing blood pressure, together with significant reductions in pulse rate and salivary flow.3. It is concluded that guanfacine lowers blood pressure in hypertensive patients and is probably suitable for twice daily administration, but produces xerostomia and sedation.

Notes: Topical anaesthesia of the respiratory tract for fibreoptic bronchoscopy was compared, in a single-blind study, inhaled from a simple and inexpensive jet nebuliser, administered by cricothyroid injection or by a ‘spray-as-you-go technique’. Each technique was supplemented by spraying lignocaine through the fibrescope and intravenous fentanyl-droperidol sedation. Inhaled nebulisation was successfully used for 96% (46 of 48) of patients, was safe, effective and acceptable to the patient and bronchoscopist. The cricothyroid injection method produced better conditions than nebulisation in patients who had diagnostic bronchoscopy. The nebuliser technique is as satisfactory as the spraying technique in patients for diagnostic bronchial lavage in whom bleeding from a cricothyroid puncture is unacceptable. Patients who used the nebuliser were more satisfied. This technique may also be a useful method for ‘awake’ intubation.

Notes: Postoperative psychomotor and cognitive recovery were assessed after anaesthesia induced by either propofol or thiopentone, and maintained with nitrous oxide and halothane in 40 unpremedicated dental patients. Performance was shown to be impaired one hour postoperatively for the whole sample in hand–ye coordination (p 〈 0.001), reaction time (p 〈 0.001) and digit span (p 〈 0.05). There was evidence of impairment at 3 hours postoperatively in reaction time (p 〈 0.05) and ataxia (p 〈 0.01). Performance also deteriorated in the dexterity and aiming tasks. Patients reported significantly less clumsiness by 24 hours in blurred vision and shivering (p 〈 0.05) and by 48 hours less coughing (p 〈 0.05). However, there was no significant difference between groups. No evidence showed that recovery in the propofol group was faster, so it was concluded that induction with propofol offered no advantage when anaesthesia is maintained with nitrous oxide and halothane for the periods of time reported in this study.

Notes: [Auszug] Samples of about 10 ml. of blood were taken from the antecubital vein and 2.5 ml. of plasma was mixed with 3 ml. of an aqueous solution of 15 ng/ml. of modaline as internal standard and 1 ml. of 5 M sodium hydroxide. The mixture was extracted three times with diethyl ether, and the combined ether ...

Notes: [Auszug] In the simplest case where a mutation occurs in the mycelium or spores in the inoculum, and the mutant grows at the same rate as the parent mycelium, a true geometric sector is produced. However., when the growth rate of the mutant exceeds that of the parent the borders of the 'sector diverge and ...

    Topics: Biology
Notes: Summary The maize mitochondrial COXI, COXII, COB, ATPA and 5S, 18S and 26S rRNA genes have been located and orientated on the circular 570 kb restriction map. The ATPA gene is present in two copies, being within a 12 kb direct repeat, while the other genes are single copies. The protein coding genes are not obviously clustered whereas the 5S and 18S rRNA genes are closely linked and 16 kb from the 26S rRNA gene. The 5S and 18S mt rRNA genes and the ATPA gene are transcribed from the same mtDNA strand while the 26S rRNA, COXI, COXII and COB are transcribed from the opposite strand.
