Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung An Schädelhirnpräparaten wurden Rotationsversuche durchgeführt.
Notes: Summary Experimental simulations of motion of the brain at impact were carried out. Rotational accelerations from 2,000 up to 8,000 rad/s2 with durations of 8 to 32 ms were applied to preparations of human skull and brain. The tests were filmed with a high-speed camera with up to 3,000 frames/s. Due to inertia there were relative motion and displacement of the upper part of the brain relative to the skull-cap. Marked displacements (maximum: 2 cm) were observed on atrophied brains. Test results are discussed and compared with other investigations.

Notes: Abstract A slurry sampling ETAAS method for the determination of trace concentrations of Ca, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Na and Ni in tungsten trioxide is presented. A high background absorption appearing with large sample amounts during atomization at high temperatures was the only matrix interference observed. It could be significantly reduced by volatilization of the matrix in the pyrolysis step. Calibration curves recorded with aqueous standards could be used for calibration in all cases excluding the determination of very low analyte concentrations of Co and Fe which required the use of the standard additions method. The results obtained by this method showed an excellent agreement with those determined in digests by ETAAS. The detection limits achievable by the slurry technique were between 1 (Ca, K, Mg, Na) and 210 (Cu) ng/g. They were mostly by more than one order of magnitude better than those of the solution techniques.

Description / Table of Contents: Linters cellulose was treated with electron or γ-radiation within a wide range of dose rate and then subjected to enzymatic and acid hydrolytic degradation, respectively. At radiation of low dose rate acid hydrolytic degradation results in a strong decrease of the LODP and of the residues as compared with non-irradiated samples. Enzymatic degradation was found to be accelerated by high energy pre-irradiation. Pre-irradiation at low dose rate caused retardation of enzymatic hydrolysis as compared with non-irradiated samples.

Description / Table of Contents: Antielectrostatic finishing of textile fabrics of poly(ethylene terephthalate) was performed by radiation chemical coating of poly(ethyleneglycol acrylate)s. The achieved modification effect was investigated with regard to its permanence mainly by recording the course of surface resistivity, and in dependence on the composition of the modifier (monoacrylate/diacrylate ratio, molar mass), impregnation time and temperature, residual moisture, mass increase, energy dose, and dose rate. Detailed analytical and microscopic investigations evidenced important findings concerning the optimal technology of modification. The results permitted to suggest favourable modification parameters for satisfactory permanence of the effect.

Description / Table of Contents: The generation of grafting radicals by electron irradiation is measured ESR spectroscopically in different celluloses. It is shown that the formation of radicals depends strongly on the moisture and that the radical decay led to the conclusions of two different radical structures. The mobility of the radicals in the amorphous region is strongly influenced by the moisture content of cellulose. This is used to explain the grafting reactions of ionic monomers onto cellulose. Grafting of a useful extent of ionic monomers was done at low energy doses without a remarkable degradation of the cellulose.
