Description: This dataset includes an inventory of all published marine turtle stable isotope studies to help inform ecology and conservation research. We conducted an extensive literature search in Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar in June 2018. All peer-reviewed primary research papers were included in the analysis excluding fossil isotope studies. The inventory provides information on each publication. Description: Observations of investigations for plastic ingestion in loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta), stranded or bycaught on the coastline of North Cyprus (Eastern Mediterranean). A total of 135 loggerhead turtles were sampled spanning a period of 11 years (2012-2022). During necropsy, the entire gastrointestinal tract was removed and initial contents weighed. The contents were grossly examined then rinsed through a 1 mm mesh sieve to separate and remove the plastic for classification and dietary items for storage and analysis. Ingested plastic was classified using a system outlined in Duncan et al. (2019, doi:10.1038/s41598-019-48086-4; 2021, doi:10.3389/fmars.2021.699521) which builds upon the Fulmar Protocol and MSFD (Marine Strategy Framework Directive) Marine Litter Report 2011 (Descriptor 10) toolkits (Galgani et al., 2014, doi:10.1016/j.marenvres.2014.02.003; van Franeker et al., 2011, doi:10.1016/j.envpol.2011.06.008).

Description: Ocean Sampling Day was initiated by the EU-funded Micro B3 (Marine Microbial Biodiversity, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology) project to obtain a snapshot of the marine microbial biodiversity and function of the world’s oceans. It is a simultaneous global mega-sequencing campaign aiming to generate the largest standardized microbial data set in a single day. This will be achievable only through the coordinated efforts of an Ocean Sampling Day Consortium, supportive partnerships and networks between sites. This commentary outlines the establishment, function and aims of the Consortium and describes our vision for a sustainable study of marine microbial communities and their embedded functional traits.
Description: This work was supported by the Micro B3 project, which is funded from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7; Joint Call OCEAN.2011‐2: Marine microbial diversity – new insights into marine ecosystems functioning and its biotechnological potential) under the grant agreement no 287589.
