Abstract:
The growth conditions of BaBe 2 Si 2 O 7 crystals in the hydrothermal synthesis method were investigated. Experiments were carried out to determine P-T phase diagrams and reaction phase diagrams. The optimum conditions in the present experiments were 1) pressure: 500 bar, 2) temperature: 385°C, 3) temperature gradient: 15°C, 4) KOH concentration in water: 3 mol/l, 5) baffle-opening-area ratio: 15%, and 6) growth time: 60 h. Under these growth conditions, transparent single crystals of platelet shape (0.2 mm in edge) were obtained on the ceramic seeds.
