Abstract: There is no systematic description of primary anatomical landmarks that allow a surgeon to reliably and safely navigate the superior and posterior mediastinum’s fat tissue spaces near large vessels and nerves during video-assisted endothoracoscopic interventions in the prone position of a patient. Our aim was to develop an algorithm of sequential visual navigation during thoracoscopic extirpation of the esophagus and determine the most permanent topographic and anatomical landmarks allowing safe thoracoscopic dissection of the esophagus in the prone position. Methods The anatomical study of the mediastinal structural features was carried out on 30 human cadavers before and after opening the right pleural cavity. Results For thoracoscopic extirpation of the esophagus in the prone position, anatomical landmarks are defined, their variants are assessed, and an algorithm for their selection is developed, allowing their direct visualization before and after opening the mediastinal pleura. Conclusion The proposed algorithm for topographic and anatomical navigation based on the key anatomical landmarks in the posterior mediastinum provides safe performance of the video-assisted thoracoscopic extirpation of the esophagus in the prone position.

Abstract: The biogenic polyamines, spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm), are present at millimolar concentrations in all eukaryotic cells, where they participate in the regulation of vitally important cellular functions. Polyamine analogs and derivatives are a traditional and important instrument for the investigation of the cellular functions of polyamines, enzymes of their metabolism, and the regulation of the biosynthesis of antizyme—a key downregulator of polyamine homeostasis. Here, we describe convenient gram-scale syntheses of a set of C-methylated analogs of Spd. The biochemical properties of these compounds and the possibility for the regulation of their activity by moving a methyl group along the polyamine backbone and by changing the stereochemistry of the chiral center(s) are discussed.

Abstract: Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias. Pharmacological preparations are used for treatment to control heart rate and rhythm. Amiodarone is one of these highly effective preparations, but, at the same time, it has significant toxicity and nonspecific accumulation in tissues. The drug delivery system based on polyelectrolyte microcapsules is one of the solutions. For this purpose, we compared different encapsulation methods of amiodaron: monoammonium salt of glycyrrhizic acid (Am:MASGA) complex (molar ratio 1:8). The concentration of amiodarone was determined by spectrophotometric methods at 251 nm. It has been shown that the co-precipitation method allows capturing 8% of Am:MASGA by CaCO3 microspherulites, which is not sufficient for the long-acting drug. The adsorption method allows encapsulating more than 30% of Am:MASGA into CaCO3 microspherulites and polyelectrolyte microcapsules CaCO3(PAH/PSS)3, but, at the same time, an insignificant amount of substance is released into the incubation medium. The development of delivery and long-acting drug system based on such methods are not inexpedient. The most appropriate encapsulation method of Am:MASGA is the adsorption method into polyelectrolyte microcapsules with complex interpolyelectrolyte structure (PAH/PSS)3. Such a type of PMC adsorbed about 50% of the initial amount of the substance and 25–30% of Am:MASGA was released into the medium after 115 h of incubation. The adsorption of Am:MASGA by polyelectrolyte microcapsules has electrostatic nature as evidenced by the acceleration of the release by 1.8 times as ionic strength increases

Abstract: Super-resolution microscopy is widely used in the development of novel antimicrobial testing in vitro . In the presented work, a scanning protocol was developed by the method of scanning ion-conducting microscopy (SICM), which makes it possible to study microorganisms without rigid fixation and in saline, obtaining an index map of nanosized structures. The effect of azole and echinocandins drugs on the morphology and mechanical properties of Candida parapsilosis yeast was studied. The findings are consistent with previously proposed drug mechanisms and reports that have examined antifungal agents using AFM, SEM, and TEM. We have shown that the SICM method is capable of scanning and detecting the nanomechanical properties of yeast non-invasively.

Abstract: New antibiotics are unquestionably needed to fight the emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria. To date, antibiotics targeting bacterial central metabolism have been poorly investigated. By determining the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of desmethylphosphinothricin (Glu-γ-PH), an analogue of glutamate with a phosphinic moiety replacing the γ-carboxyl group, we previously showed its promising antibacterial activity on Escherichia coli. Herein, we synthetized and determined the growth inhibition exerted on E. coli by an L-Leu dipeptide derivative of Glu-γ-PH (L-Leu-D,L-Glu-γ-PH). Furthermore, we compared the growth inhibition obtained with this dipeptide with that exerted by the free amino acid, i.e., Glu-γ-PH, and by their phosphonic and non-desmethylated analogues. All the tested compounds were more effective when assayed in a chemically-defined minimal medium. The dipeptide L-Leu-D,L-Glu-γ-PH had a significantly improved antibacterial activity (2 μg/mL), at a concentration between the non-desmethytaled (0.1 μg/mL) and the phosphonic (80 μg/mL) analogues. Also, in Bacillus subtilis, the dipeptide L-Leu-D,L-Glu-γ-PH displayed an activity comparable to that of the antibiotic amoxicillin. This work highlights the antibacterial relevance of the phosphinic pharmacophore and proposes new avenues for the development of novel antimicrobial drugs containing the phosphinic moiety.

Abstract: The Universat-SOCRAT project is developed in the Moscow State University aiming to forecast space-related risks for aviation, suborbital, and orbital flights and provide new knowledge on the magnetosphere and atmosphere of the Earth. An essential part of the system is a multi-satellite constellation, which would operate in the low-Earth orbit. Among other things, it would monitor the radiation and magnetic-wave environment in the vicinity of the Earth: in space and atmosphere. An Earth observation system, which operates in gamma and visible spectral range, should allow attribute detected changes in the environment to the atmospheric phenomena. We have already designed the instruments to detect increases in the flux of energetic charged particles (solar energetic particles, galactic cosmic rays, and electrons precipitating from radiation belts), geomagnetic disturbances, and electromagnetic transients in the atmosphere. The first stage of the program started on July 5, 2019, with a successful launch of three 3U CubeSats from the Vostochny cosmodrome. These satellites carry instruments for monitoring space radiation and prototype of the device for observing the Earth’s atmosphere in the ultraviolet range. The collected data has confirmed the advantages of multi-satellite observations for the goals of the project. During this year, we plan to launch two more 6U CubeSats with charged particle and gamma-ray detectors, magnetometers, and instrument for detecting of atmospheric electromagnetic transients. We suppose that these satellites will lay the foundation of the space threat monitoring system.

Abstract: Winter thunderstorms in Kamchatka are rare meteorological phenomena. To investigate the nature of this phenomenon, time variations of quasistatic electric field and meteorological quantities at «Paratunka» observatory, IKIR FEB RAS (φ = 52:97° N; λ = 158:25° E), and the data on solar, seismic and cyclonic activities available in INTERNET were used as a thunderstorm activity indicator. It was shown that powerful solar flares accompanied by radiation increases in visible and infra-red spectra as well as the Earth infra-red radiation entering the atmosphere before powerful earthquakes with magnitude M 〉 8 may be additional sources of heat in the near-ground atmosphere of Kamchatka. The impact of tropical cyclones on the processes of thunderstorm activity formation in Kamchatka during weak seismic activity has been determined insufficiently and requires further detailed investigation.

Abstract: Continues magnetic measurements at the IKIR FEB RAS obser-vatories Magadan (MGD), Paratunka (PET), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (YSS), Cape Schmidt (CPS) and Khabarovsk (KHB) and CSIR-NGRI observatories Hyder-abad (HYB) and Choutuppal (CPL) have been started almost since their formation. A significant part of the results obtained is presented in the WDC and INTERMAGNET databases. However, a large amount of raw data remains un-processed and unavailable for using by scientific community. In the past few years, institutes has been making efforts to process and reprocess old magnetic data. Digital images of analog magnetograms of the Observatory Paratunka since 1967 were obtained and the possibility of their use for calculation hourly and minute values of magnetic field elements was evaluated. Old digital data that was available during the conversion from analog to digital magnetometers is processed. The main problem of processing or re-processing archived data is the lack of information (metadata) about the measurement conditions. First of all, these are the results of absolute observations, which are necessary to obtain the values of the elements of the total field vector. In this paper, some technologies are proposed that allow to use the data obtained during processing of analog magnetograms to adjust the digital magnetometers records. A signif-icant problem is the lack or inaccuracy of information about the temperature conditions in the variation pavilion, about magnetometers or support equipment maintenance or about works in and near the pavilions. As we accumulate the experience during the processing of old magnetic data, a “catalog” of noise and its typical images is formed. This makes it more reliable and efficient to identify and remove this noise from records.

Abstract: The experience of short-term forecasting of Kamchatka earthquakes based on complex well measurements at the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky geody-namic polygon (PGP) shows that, as a rule, the preparation of strong Kamchatka earthquakes is fairly reliable in the medium-term time scale (months or years be-fore the earthquake). However the determination of the stage beginning imme-diately preceding an earthquake (weeks or days before the main event) is a very difficult task. At present time, the solution of this problem is largely associated with the involvement in the preparation of forecast conclusions of data from continuous monitoring of the ionosphere, carried out by ground-based means of vertical radiosonding and measurements of total electronic content (TEC) using the global navigation satellite system GLONASS and GPS. This is due to the fact that significant changes in a number of ionospheric parameters occur mainly 1-5 days before the Kamchatka earthquakes. The results of the compar-ison of the data of daily monitoring of the ionosphere, including information on TEC, with the data integrated downhole measurements showed a rather high correlation of occurrence of anomalies in the ionosphere before strong earth-quakes with changes in the complex parameters in borehole measurements. As one example, the report presents the results of ionospheric and borehole monitoring obtained in the time neighborhood of the strong (M W = 7.5) the earth-quake that occurred on March 25, 2020 in the area of the Northern Kurils. The results show a high correlation between changes in the specific electrical resis-tivity of the Geospace in the area of the PGP with variations in the TEC and the formation of a number of other anomalies in the ionosphere a few days be-fore the earthquake. These results indicate that it is possible to determine fairly reliably the beginning of the final stage of preparation for a strong earthquake. Currently, methods based on atmospheric parameters monitoring are used quite successfully for predictive estimates of the epicenter and magnitude of an earth-quake: the method of chemical potential corrections for measurements at an altitude of ∼ 100 m, as well as data from measurements of outgoing long-wave infrared radiation (OLR) at the level of the upper edge of clouds (heights of 10 -15 km).

Abstract: This article presents the results of the assessment of compliance with fire safety requirements of the building of the poultry house for 200,000 heads of Avangard LLC of the Republic of Mordovia, made on the basis of fire risk calculations. The analysis of factors affecting the quality and reliability of the results of calculations is carried out. During the research and evaluation of the objects compliance with fire safety requirements were guided by the provisions of the Technical regulations on fire safety requirements. A list of technical regulations applicable to the object under study was defined. The article gives the fire-technical characteristics of the object under study, the class of functional fire hazard (agricultural buildings). The conducted research has established that the object of research meets the requirements of fire safety. Calculations on fire risk assessment were fulfilled by comparing the calculated values of fire risk with the normative value. For the considered object of protection the fire hazard analysis including the analysis of building characteristics (space-planning, design and technical solutions), fire protection systems, and features of functioning taking into account contingent and distribution of fire load in rooms was completed. The calculation of the risk of the gas supply system was considered the impact of the flame during the combustion of gas released in case of emergency depressurization of the pipeline. The potential risk in a poultry house near a gas pipeline with a diameter of 50 mm will be 1.7810-5, near a gas pipeline with a diameter of 70 mm - 4.410-7, and in total - 1.82410-5. The individual fire risk for employees of the poultry house building is 8.3110-7 year-1. Calculations of the spread of fire hazards and the time of evacuation of people are made using software that allows to create graphical models of space-planning solutions of buildings. With the introduction of the fire risk assessment system at the legislative level, the owners of objects have the opportunity to optimize the cost of fire safety with the required level of safety of people.
