Abstract: Metal-carbon nanocomposites possess attractive physical-chemical properties compared to their macroscopic counterparts. They are important and unique nanosystems with applications including in the future development of nanomaterial enabled sensors, polymer fillers for electromagnetic radiation shields, and catalysts for various chemical reactions. However, synthesis of these nanocomposites typically employs toxic solvents and hazardous precursors, leading to environmental and health concerns. Together with the complexity of the synthetic processes involved, it is clear that a new synthesis route is required. Herein, Cu/C, Ni/C and Co/C nanocomposites were synthesized using a two-step method including mechanochemical treatment of polyethylene glycol and acetates of copper, nickel and cobalt, followed by pyrolysis of the mixtures in an argon flow at 700 °C. Morphological and structural analysis of the synthesized nanocomposites show their core-shell nature with average crystallite sizes of 50 (Cu/C), 18 (Co/C) and 20 nm (Ni/C) respectively. The carbon shell originates from disordered sp 2 carbon (5.2–17.2 wt.%) with a low graphitization degree. The stability and prolonged resistance of composites to oxidation in air arise from the complete embedding of the metal core into the carbon shell together with the presence of surface oxide layer of metal nanoparticles. This approach demonstrates an environmentally friendly method of mechanochemistry for controllable synthesis of metal-carbon nanocomposites.

Abstract: International innovation and investment activity occupy a special place in the system of modern international business. The authors propose an economic and mathematical model for assessing the sensitivity of international innovation and investment projects by the criterion of net present value. It is advised to use the obtained sensitivity indicator as an additional one in assessing the economic efficiency of international innovation and investment projects of an enterprise. The proposed model makes it possible to determine the effect of several internal parameters simultaneously on the net present value of the project.

Abstract: The aim. The aim of the study was to conduct a comparative analysis of fibroblast growth factor-2, the total content and fractions of sulfated glycosoaminoglycans as well as free and peptide-bounding oxyproline as the markers of connective tissue metabolism in young patients with mitral valve prolapse, type 1 diabetes mellitus and the combination of both indications. Materials and methods. 93 patients between 19 and 33 years old with either mitral valve prolapse, or type 1 diabetes or the combination of both indications were examined. Group 1 was represented by 36 patients with the monomorbid type 1 diabetes mellitus. Group 2 consisted of 33 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and mitral valve prolapse. The comparison group included 24 people with diagnosed mitral valve prolapse. The concentration of fibroblast growth factor-2 in blood plasma was determined by the enzyme immunoassay using a Quantikine reagent kit (Human FGF basic Immunoassay), manufactured by R & D Systems, Inc. (USA) and expressed in pg/ml. The total content and fractions of glycosaminoglycans in blood serum were determined by the method of N. G. Stern et al. and expressed in units of optical density. The level of free and peptide-bounding oxyproline in blood serum were determined by the method of P. N. Sharaev and expressed in µmol/L. Results. Fibroblast growth factor-2 was higher in group 2, where it was 23.7±0.25 pg/ml compared to the control group – 14.20±0.22 pg/ml (p 〈 0.01). There was also a significant difference in the levels of fibroblast growth factor-2 between groups 1 where it equaled 15.33±0.24 pg/ml and 2 – 23.71±0.25 pg/ml (p 〈 0.01). The total content of glycosaminoglycans in comparison with the control group, where it was equal to 9.7±0.62 odu, was higher in all groups of patients: in group 1 it was 12.07±1.04 odu, in the comparison group it was 11.75±0.83 odu, in the group with the combined pathology it was 13.32±1.59 odu (p 〈 0.05). The values of glycosaminoglycans II fraction, were higher in group 2 – 4.96±0.59 odu. The level of peptide-bound oxyproline, just as the level of free oxyproline, significantly increased in patients with comorbid pathology in group 2, compared to the control group: 16.06±1.54 µmol/l versus 8.7±0.81 µmol/l (p 〈 0.01) respectively. Conclusions. The values of fibroblast growth factor-2, glycosaminoglycans II fraction, free and peptide-bound oxyproline were significantly higher in patients with diabetes mellitus and mitral valve prolapse in comparison with the control group. Fibroblast growth factor-2 was higher in patients with comorbid pathology compared to the monomorbid diabetes patients.

    In: Journal of Raman Spectroscopy, Wiley, Vol. 50, No. 4 ( 2019-04), p. 490-498
Abstract: This work demonstrates a novel approach to application of in situ Raman spectroscopy to study laser‐induced stabilization of reduced nanoceria (CeO 2− x ) supported on graphene—a promising nanocomposite for future development of nanomaterial‐enabled gas sensors or vital catalysts for hydrogenation of alcohols under anaerobic conditions. Structural stabilization of CeO 2− x nanoparticles (NPs) on a graphene surface is evidenced by significant modification of Raman spectra—the appearance, increase in relative intensity, and low‐wavenumber shift of CeO 2 F 2g band at excitation laser powers higher than ~5 mW. The effect is related to the reduction in a number of oxygen vacancies in CeO 2− x NPs. Analysis of the graphene 2D and G band wavenumbers through ω 2D ( ω G ) correlation indicated a decrease in p‐type graphene doping attributed to the charge transfer between the stabilizing CeO 2− x NPs and the graphene that occurs due to trapping of graphene mobile holes by oxygen vacancies in CeO 2− x . High‐resolution transmission electron microscopy analysis supported this idea by showing the increased lattice constant of fluorite‐type hexagonal‐shaped CeO 2− x NPs as compared with bulk CeO 2 and which could be related to partial reduction of CeO 2− x NPs as a result of the Ce 4+ transformation to Ce 3+ with formation of corresponding oxygen vacancies. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy data confirmed the mixed Ce 4+ /Ce 3+ valence state of the CeO 2− x NPs. Thus, by combining the structure conversion of nanoceria induced by electromagnetic radiation and its stabilization by the graphene support, this work provides a foundation for advanced concepts in the development of the next‐generation catalysts and sensors.

Abstract: The application of deep learning convolutional neural networks for solving the problem of automated facial expression recognition and determination of emotions of a person is analyzed. It is proposed to use the advantages of the transfer approach to deep learning convolutional neural networks training to solve the problem of insufficient data volume in sets of images with different facial expressions. Most of these datasets are labeled in accordance with a facial coding system based on the units of human facial movement. The developed technology of transfer learning of the public deep learning convolutional neural networks families DenseNet and MobileNet, with the subsequent “fine tuning” of the network parameters, allowed to reduce the training time and computational resources when solving the problem of facial expression recognition without losing the reliability of recognition of motor units. During the development of deep learning technology for convolutional neural networks, the following tasks were solved. Firstly, the choice of publicly available convolutional neural networks of the DenseNet and MobileNet families pre-trained on the ImageNet dataset was substantiated, taking into account the peculiarities of transfer learning for the task of recognizing facial expressions and determining emotions. Secondary, a model of a deep convolutional neural network and a method for its training have been developed for solving problems of recognizing facial expressions and determining human emotions, taking into account the specifics of the selected pretrained convolutional neural networks. Thirdly, the developed deep learning technology was tested, and finally, the resource intensity and reliability of recognition of motor units on the DISFA set were assessed. The proposed technology of deep learning of convolutional neural networks can be used in the development of systems for automatic recognition of facial expressions and determination of human emotions for both stationary and mobile devices. Further modification of the systems for recognizing motor units of human facial activity in order to increase the reliability of recognition is possible using of the augmentation technique.
