    Description: Rocky shores are considered heterogeneous environments due to their composition and structure. Therefore, they support numerous habitats for flora and fauna. Organisms found on rocky shores are facing intense physicochemical conditions during tidal changes from upper to lower intertidal zones. Total (N=1888) specimens were collected on seasonal basis from intertidal zone during low tide from two rocky sites of Karachi coast, Buleji and Sunehri during January 2017 to December 2017. The highest number of individuals (N=1041), were recorded from Buleji than Sunehri (N= 847). The seasonal abundance in Mollusca were measured as (36.84%), (63.67%), (25.08) and (40.38%) from Buleji while from Sunehri (45.16 %), (46.01%), (48.65) and (42.79 %) during pre-monsoon, south-west monsoon, post monsoon and north-east monsoon season respectively. Group Arthropoda, Mollusca and Echinodermata were shows the highest abundance of the species at both sites as compare to other groups. The highest diversity index from Sunehri (H'=0.64) was measured in north-east monsoon season meanwhile, (H'=0.61) was measured in post monsoon season from Buleji coast. Evenness index (J'=0.25) in pre-monsoon season from Buleji and (J'=0.28) in south-west monsoon season from Sunehri coast. Season shows the great abundance of species as compare to other seasons. No significant correlation was observed in between seasons, water temperature and salinity with macrofauna groups at both sites.

    Description: A preliminary study was conducted on the occurrence and faunasticcomposition of zooplankton in two creeks of Port Qasim creek system during January toApril 1998 (pre-monsoon season). Total 14 major groups were recorded during the studyperiod. Despite the importance of zooplankton in aquatic food web meager information isavailable on the assemblage of zooplankton in the port Qasim creek system. Highestmean (%) compositions (38.96) were recorded in copepod at station # 1 and chaetognath(23.95) at station # 2. Copepods, chaetognath and zoea were the major component ofzooplanktonic groups at both the stations. The hydrographic parameters such as airtemperature (oC), water temperature (oC), salinity (ppt), dissolved oxygen (mg/L), pH,and transparency (cm) were recorded on monthly basis. No significance correlation at(P 〈 0.05) was observed in between zooplankton with hydrographic parameters, localityand months. The number of zooplankton/100m3 found in order at station #1: copepod 〉chaetognath 〉 zoea 〉 penaeid PL 〉 amphipoda 〉 hydromedusae 〉 caridean PL 〉 fishlarvae 〉 lucifer 〉 megalopa 〉 fish eggs 〉 mysids 〉 acetes 〉 squilla larvae. At station # 2:chaetognath 〉 copepod 〉 zoea 〉 mysids 〉 Lucifer 〉 hydromedusae 〉 megalopa 〉penaeid PL 〉 fish larvae 〉 fish eggs 〉 amphipoda 〉 caridean PL 〉 others 〉 acetes 〉squilla larvae.

    Description: Species diversity and abundance of four major groups of Echinoderms (Asteroidea, Ophiuroidea, Echinoidea and Holothuroidea) were recorded from two rocky shores Buleji and Sunehri during January to December 2014. Twenty surveys were done during low tides from intertidal zone. Twenty one (21) species of Echinoderms were identified including Asterina lorioli, Asteropectin indicus, Anthenea rudis, Asterina sp. Ophioplocus imbricatus, Ophionereis dubia, Macrophiothrix aspidota, Ophiothrix sp. Ophiothella sp., Echinometra mithai, Echinometra sp., Holothuria atra, Holothuria arenicola, Holothuria leucospilota, Holothuria pardalis, Holothuria verrucosa, Holothuria cinerascens, Aslia forbesi, Staurothyone rosacea, Stolus buccalis and Ohshimella ehrenbergii. A total of 1,062 specimens were collected from Buleji and 778 from Sunehri. Holothuria arenicola and Holothuria pardalis shows highest relative abundance in all seasons. The highest abundance (28.14%) and (34.45%) of Holothuria arenicola was recorded during pre-monsoon season and the lowest relative abundance (0.29%) was observed in Holothuria leucospilota and Aslia forbesi from Buleji in Southwest monsoon and Holothuria cinerascens (0.42%) from Sunehri in post-monsoon season.Highest Shannon –Wiener diversity index (H') at Buleji was recorded in Northeast monsoon season (2.24) and in post-monsoon season (1.97) at Sunehri. No significant difference was observed in between seasons and species at (P〉0.05, 0.49) and species between localities at (P〉0.05, 0.11).

    Description: In this study the amounts of mercury (Hg) were determined in tentacles and muscle ‎tissues of O. ehrenbergii and S. buccalis from two coastal sites of Karachi; Buleji and ‎Sunehri during Southwest monsoon (August and September) and Northeast monsoon ‎‎(December and January) seasons of the year 2018. The mean amounts of Hg in edible ‎tissues of sea cucumbers were as follows: O. ehrenbergii (0.0176 mg/kg dry wt.) and S. ‎buccalis (0.0155 mg/kg dry wt.). Hg amounts in muscles of both species are much lower ‎than the maximum permissible limits (0.5 mg/kg wet wt.). Estimated Daily Intakes for ‎adults consuming O. ehrenbergii and S. buccalis are lower than published RfD values. ‎Total Target Hazard Quotient (TTHQ) values (0.00787) are also lower than 1, it may be ‎concluded that the consumption of these sea cucumbers from Karachi, do not pose any ‎health hazards to human as Hg amounts were concerned.‎
