Description: An overview is given of the Pectinidae types present in the Gualtieri collection. In Gualtieri (1742) 46 figures (pl. 73 - 15 figs, pl. 74 - 25 figs, pl. 98 – 2 figs, and pl. 99 – 4 figs) show specimens of Pectinidae. Linnaeus (1758) referred to 10 Pectinidae species figured by Gualtieri. Of these, 8 species (7 paralectotypes and one syntype, herein recognised) were traced in the Gualtieri collection, and 2 species (Ostrea peslutrae and Ostrea maxima) were not found. Subsequently, Gmelin (1791) referred to 33 Pectinidae species (12 described by Linnaeus in 1758, one species described by Müller in 1776), and 20 species (13 species were traced, all herein recognised as syntypes, and 7 species were not found) named by himself. No direct evidence was found of Rumphius’ Pectinidae specimens in the Gualtieri collection. New junior synonyms are Ostrea fasciata Linnaeus, 1758 = Ostrea glabra Linnaeus, 1758, Ostrea plana Gmelin, 1791 = Ostrea opercularis Linnaeus, 1758, Ostrea media Gmelin, 1791 = Ostrea varia Linnaeus, 1758, Ostrea florida Gmelin, 1791 = Ostrea opercularis Linnaeus, 1758, Ostrea incarnata Gmelin, 1791 = Ostrea opercularis Linnaeus, 1758, and two new senior synonyms: O. punctata Gmelin, 1791 = Pecten lentiginosus Reeve, 1853 and Ostrea depressa Gmelin, 1791 = Ostrea flexuosa Poli, 1795. The junior synonyms are retained as the valid names.

Description: During the Rumphius Biohistorical Expedition (1990) to Ambon 17 Pectinidae species were collected, nine of which were described by Rumphius (1705) and five illustrated by Rumphius. One species, viz.\nDecatopecten plica (Linnaeus, 1758), illustrated in Rumphius (1705: pl. 44, fig. O), has not been refound.\nNo decisive evidence is found of Rumphius\' pectinids kept in either the Gualtieri collection at Calci, or in the Naturhistorisches Museum at Vienna.

Description: The Pectinoidea species collected on the coral reefs around the Berau Islands (East Kalimantan, Indonesia) were studied. Nineteen species (four Propeamussiidae, fifteen Pectinidae) are listed from the Berau Islands. Three pectinoidean species are new to science, of which two are described herein: Parvamussium caesicium n. sp. and Talochlamys inaequalis n. sp. Two pectinid species (Pascahinnites coruscans coruscans and Palliolum minutulum) are new records for Indonesia.

Description: Born described in two publications (1778, 1780) the molluscs in the collection of Empress Maria Theresa (1717-1780), now in the Natural History Museum at Vienna. In this paper the Pectinidae type material is described. Ten new species were introduced of which Argopecten\nnucleus (Born, 1778) and Minnivola pyxidata (Born, 1778) are valid taxa. The remaining eight names are junior or senior synonyms and there is also a nomen inquirendum.

Description: Introduction\nDuring the Indonesian-French Karubar cruise to eastern Indonesia a new scallop was found near the Kai Islands, which was provisionally identified by Dijkstra & Kastoro(1997: 279, figs 156-159), based on a few dead specimens from the upper bathyal depths. Subsequently, more material was collected by the French Musorstom 9 cruise to the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia), sufficient to describe it herein. All specimens (empty shells) were deposited in MNHN, with voucher specimens in the private pectinoid reference collection of the author.

Description: During the Indonesian-Dutch SNELLIUS -II Expedition (1984-1985) to the Indonesian Archipelago 46 pectinacean species were collected from the Flores Sea and Banda Sea (5\xc2\xb052\'-9\xc2\xb057\'S, 118\xc2\xb012\'-123\xc2\xb058\'E) at littoral to bathyal depth (835 m). One new pectinid genus, viz. Glorichlamys gen. nov., six new propeamussiids, viz. Parvamussium araneum spec. nov., Parvamussium carbaseum spec. nov., Parvamussium cassium spec. nov., Parvamussium undosum spec. nov., Parvamussium virgatum spec. nov., Cyclopecten cancellus spec. nov., and one new entoliid, viz. Pectinella aequoris spec. nov. are described. Twelve new records of Pectinacea for this region are mentioned. For Ostrea squamosa Gmelin, 1791 a lectotype is designated. In addition Pectinidae of the SNELLIUS-Expedition (19291930) to the eastern region of Indonesia, and material collected by Dr B.W. Hoeksema near Sulawesi (1985, 1986) are reported upon.

Description: Twenty-nine species of Pectinoidea (12 Propeamussiidae, 1 Entoliidae, 16 Pectinidae) are recorded from the Austral Islands, the southernmost archipelago of French Polynesia. One genus (Pectinidae: Lamellipecten n. gen.) and five species (Propeamussiidae: Parvamussium australanum n. sp., Cyclochlamys australensis n. sp., Cyclopecten ambiguus n. sp.; Pectinidae: Lamellipecten aduncus n. gen., n. sp., Mimachlamys erycina n. sp.) are new to science, and most others are new records for the archipelago. The near-shore fauna of Rapa has 12 species of Pectinidae, and half of these have narrow-range distributions. Such a remarkably high level of marine endemism is shared by other mollusc taxa on Rapa.
