    Notes: Zusammenfassung Frühere Forscher haben die Misessche Gleichung als Mittel zur Lösung des Problems der Grenzschicht an der längsangeströmten ebenen Platte mit Druckanstieg nicht verwendet wegen ihrer unangenehmen Singularität an der Platte. In der vorliegenden Untersuchung wird eine Geschwindigkeitsverteilung berechnet, welche die Plattenbindungen berücksichtigt und folglich den Hautreibungswert durch die Geschwindigkeitswerte in der Grenzschicht berechnen lässt. Diese Werte werden ermittelt durch ein Fortsetzungsdifferenzenverfahren auf der Grundlage der Misesschen Gleichung sowie durch ein modifiziertes Differenzenverfahren in der Nähe der Platte. Dieses letzte Verfahren ist nötig wegen der Instabilität der ursprünglichen Fortsetzungsberechnung in der Nähe der Platte. Angesichts der verhältnismässig geringen Rechnungsarbeit stimmen die Ergebnisse gut überein mit den Lösungen anderer Forscher, die andere Formen der Grenzschichtgleichung benutzten. Die Genauigkeit der in dieser Untersuchung erreichten Ergebnisse lässt sich natürlich noch vermehren durch Anwendung einer kleineren Schrittweite bei der ersten Fortsetzungsberechnung.

    Notes: Abstract Lucilin, the main storage protein of larval fat body and hemolymph in the sheep blowfly, Lucilia cuprina, has been isolated as a series of trimers composed of subunits of 83,000±5% daltons. Extensive electrophoretically detectable polymorphism of lucilin subunit patterns occurs in wild and laboratory populations of Lucilia; from four to nine bands are seen in any one individual. Evidence from genetic, electrophoretic, immunological, and structural studies suggests the existence of a series of 12 or more closely related structural loci (designated Luc-1 to Luc-12) which may have arisen through gene duplication. Codominant allelic variation has been found at several of these loci. Luc-1 and Luc-3, and probably the other structural loci of the series, are located on chromosome 2.

    Early prediction of hypotheroidism following 131I treatment for Graves' disease (1988)

    Notes: Abstract The aim of this study was twofold. Firstly to assess the post treatment predictive value of various biochemical and immunological tests for early hypothyroidism after 131I therapy for Graves' disease, and secondly to determine whether or not pretreatment with Carbimazole protects against post treatment hypothyroidism. The early changes observed in serum T3, T4, TSH, thyroid microsomal and thyroglobulin antibody levels were found to be of no predictive value. A sharp rise, around 2 months, in TRAb levels following 131I therapy indicated that hypothyroidism was likely to occur. This rise was thought to reflect a greater degree of thyroid damage. Lower levels of thyroglobulin in patients who had become hypothyroid by 12 months after treatment would support this view. Five weeks Carbimazole pretreatment in this relatively small group of patients did not appear to protect against hypothyroidism.
