Abstract:
image HDAC 4 is upregulated in vascular smooth muscle cells during vascular calcification. Salt inducible kinase triggers HDAC 4's cytoplasmic localization, and cytoplasmic HDAC 4 together with ENIGMA drives vascular calcification. The cytoplasmic location and function of HDAC 4 is controlled by the activity of salt inducible kinase ( SIK ). Pharmacologic inhibition of SIK sends HDAC 4 to the nucleus and inhibits the calcification process. In the cytoplasm, HDAC 4 binds to and its activity depends on the cytoskeletal adaptor protein ENIGMA (Pdlim7).
