Abstract:
Plasma levels of corticosterone and 20α-dihydrocorticosterone increase in the mouse following the administration of corticotropin. These are the two most abundant C 21 Δ 4 -3-keto adrenal steroids in mouse plasma. The evidence indicates that some, if not all, of the circulating 20α-dihydrocorticosterone represents a tissue metabolite of corticosterone. A procedure is outlined for the synthesis of 20α-dihydrocorticosterone.
