Summary In a cross-sectional study, dental and skeletal age of patients with cleft lip und cleft palate, were statistically compared with those of unaffected children. It was shown that the skeletal age of cleft patients is only slightly retardet (not significantly) as compared with the skeletal age of normal healthy children. Dental age, however, of cleft patients (boys and girls) differs very significantly from that of the unaffected group.
