    Description: The breakup reactions of weakly-bound nuclei at energies around the Coulomb barrier and the corresponding coupling effect on the other reaction channels are hot topics nowadays. To overcome the difficulty in identifying both heavier and lighter fragments simultaneously, a new kind of ionization-chamber based detector telescope has been designed and manufactured. It consists of a PCB ionization chamber and three different thickness silicon detectors installed inside the chamber, which form a multilayer Δ E - E R telescope. The working conditions were surveyed by using an α source. An in-beam test experiment shows that the detector has good particle identification for heavy particles like 17 F and 16 O as well as light particles like protons and alpha particles. The measured quasi-elastic scattering angular distribution and the related discussions for 17 F+ 208 Pb are presented.

    Description: Cadmium (Cd), an environmental and industrial pollutant, affects the nervous system and consequential neurodegenerative disorders. Recently we have shown that celastrol prevents Cd-induced neuronal cell death partially by suppressing Akt/mTOR pathway. However, the underlying mechanism remains to be elucidated. Here we show that celastrol attenuated Cd-elevated intracellular free calcium ([Ca 2+ ] i ) level and apoptosis in neuronal cells. Celastrol prevented Cd-induced neuronal apoptosis by inhibiting Akt-mediated mTOR pathway, as inhibition of Akt with Akt inhibitor X or ectopic expression of dominant negative Akt reinforced celastrol's prevention of Cd-induced phosphorylation of S6K1/4E-BP1 and cell apoptosis. Furthermore, chelating intracellular Ca 2+ with BAPTA/AM or preventing [Ca 2+ ] i elevation using EGTA potentiated celastrol's repression of Cd-induced [Ca 2+ ] i elevation and consequential activation of Akt/mTOR pathway and cell apoptosis. Moreover, celastrol blocked Cd-elicited phosphorylation of CaMKII, and pretreatment with BAPTA/AM or EGTA enhanced celastrol's suppression of Cd-increased phosphorylation of CaMKII in neuronal cells, implying that celastrol hinders [Ca 2+ ] i -mediated CaMKII phosphorylation. Inhibiting CaMKII with KN93 or silencing CaMKII attenuated Cd activation of Akt/mTOR pathway and cell apoptosis, and this was strengthened by celastrol. Taken together, these data demonstrate that celastrol attenuates Cd-induced neuronal apoptosis via inhibiting Ca 2+ -CaMKII-dependent Akt/mTOR pathway. Our findings underscore that celastrol may act as a neuroprotective agent for the prevention of Cd-induced neurodegenerative disorders. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved

    Description: This study examined the electrical performance of bilayer channel InGaZnO:H/InGaZnO thin-film transistors (TFTs). The field-effect mobility and bias stress stability of the InGaZnO device were improved by inserting the hydrogenated InGaZnO ultrathin layer compared to the pure InGaZnO single channel layer device. As a consequence, a high field-effect mobility of 55.3 cm 2 /V s, a high on/off current ratio of 10 8 , a threshold voltage of 0.7 V, and a small sub-threshold swing of 0.18 V/decade have been achieved. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and low-frequency noise analysis suggest that these desirable properties should be attributed to the ultrathin InGaZnO:H layer, which could provide suitable carrier concentration and reduce the average trap density near the channel and insulator layer interface. Meanwhile, the channel conductance of the bilayer device is controlled by thick InGaZnO layer through formation barrier energy for electron transport at the interface of InGaZnO:H and InGaZnO layer. These improved electrical properties have represented a great step towards the achievement of transparent, high performances, and low-cost metal oxide TFTs.
